The 78th Annual University Film and Video Association Conference will be a four-day, in-person event hosted by the School of Film & Media Arts at Cleveland State University from July 30 to August 2, 2024. This year’s conference theme is ROCK ON: URBAN RESILIENCE, CINEMA, AND SUSTAINABILITY Cleveland, a historic city in Ohio and home to America's iconic Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (where UFVA's 2024 picnic will be held!), is a dynamic urban center embracing innovative and environmentally responsible solutions for building a robust City of the Future. | | | | | | For 2024, conference submissions on all topics in our field are welcome, but we particularly encourage and invite submissions that address the way(s) in which the cinematic arts serve as a vital creative engine in resilient urban centers that are navigating rapid technological, environmental, economic, and social transformation.
Annual UFVA caucus meetings will be held virtually ahead of the conference on July 25th and July 26th.
Following the conference, there will be a separately programmed UFVA Virtual Day in February 2025 (exact date TBD) to accommodate members who are not able to travel and/or present their work at in-person events. We anticipate that UFVA Virtual Day will be an annual occurrence; submissions for Virtual Day 2025 will open in September 2024.
NOTE: You must be a current UFVA member to submit work and present it at the conference. All members may submit up to TWO items but each item MUST be in a different content area. Serving as a respondent does not count as a submission.
Submissions should be new projects created within the last two years that have not been previously presented as completed work at UFVA.
The content areas for UFVA 2024 are as follows:
1. Individual Papers 2. Pre-Constituted Panels 3. Screenings 4. Scripts 5. New Media 6. Workshops
IMPORTANT: Building the conference program is a complex process; we cannot accommodate scheduling requests for specific days and/or times. If you submit a proposal, please be prepared to present your work on any of the four (4) full days of the event: July 30th, July 31st, August 1st, and/or August 2nd.
You will be notified of the status of your submission(s) by the end of April.
UFVA embraces diversity of backgrounds, identities, and experiences as foundational to the future of our discipline, and encourages submission of a wide range of work that interrogates and celebrates the creative and interdisciplinary potential of film, video, and media arts. Additional information can be found in the UFVA Statement of Inclusivity.
We look forward to welcoming you to Cleveland State University this summer!
