The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the ability to quickly onboard into a complex, academic organization. The capability to work within a higher education administration in a publicly-funded state university system will be crucial to the chosen applicant’s success.
A track record of being able to pull together multiple constituencies, and of being a leader who is equally responsive to staff, students, and faculty alike, is imperative. The ideal candidate will also be able to lead on issues of work-life balance and wellness and recognize the particular importance of these areas to all the constituencies in the School of Filmmaking.
The School of Filmmaking educates undergraduate (BFA) students in the areas of animation, cinematography, directing, picture editing and sound design, producing, production design, visual effects and screenwriting. It also trains MFA students in three disciplines: creative producing, film music composition, and screenwriting. The School prepares students for careers in film, television and new media. The Dean will lead a team of award-winning faculty who are committed educators and working professionals currently active in the entertainment industry. The School also houses the Media and Emerging Technology Lab (METL), dedicated to the advancement of storytelling and content creation through emerging technologies including virtual and augmented reality, game engines, and motion capture. The Dean of the School of Filmmaking is the public face of the institution, with responsibility for fundraising, interacting with alumni and donors, interfacing with the other four conservatories on the UNCSA campus (Music, Drama, Design and Production, and Dance,), soliciting and maintaining relationships with multiple industry partners, and collaborating with UNCSA administration.
