In the Spotlight this week is the 15th Annual Big Apple Film Festival & Screenplay Competition(BAFF), promoting and celebrating the best independent films from New York City's legendary artistic community, as well as specially selected achievements from around the world. New York has long been an energizing confluence of ethnic, cultural, and cinematic diversity, and BAFF honors that tradition at every turn.

Named byMovieMaker Magazineamong the top "25 Coolest Film Festivals," BAFF is host to an impressive slate of premieres. BAFF patrons were of the first to see Money staring Jesse Williams (Grey's Anatomy), Kellen Lutz (Twilight,Tarzan), and Jess Weixler (The Good Wife);The Living Wakestarring Jesse Eisenberg (BAFF NY Emerging Talent Award recipient);Life of a Kingstarring Cuba Gooding Jr. (BAFF Golden Apple Award Recipient);Suffering Man's Charitydirected by Alan Cumming (BAFF Golden Apple Award Recipient); and Francisco Solorzano'sFloating Sunflowersstarring Anna Chlumsky.

Films honored at BAFF have been fueled by some of the best talents in show business - including Oscar winner Olympia Dukakis and Oscar nominee Haley Joel Osment - and have secured distribution and exhibition through Showtime, Warner Home Video, iTunes, Netflix, IFC Films, HBO Documentary Films, and more. In short, BAFF carries significant clout, throughout New York and around the world. It's a fantastic platform for career-enhancing visibility.

The Big Apple Film Festival is dedicated to showcasing and promoting the highest quality films from the New York City independent film community, as well as additional specially selected films from across the country and around the world.

BAFF also proudly hosts the Screenplay Competition accepting feature and short length screenplays. The Grand Prize winning short screenplay will be produced into a completed short film to premiere at the Big Apple Film Festival the following year. Cash awards ranging from $100 USD to $400 will be awarded to category winners.
