In the Spotlight today is the 5th Annual Mammoth Lakes Film Festival(MLFF), dedicated to discovering and supporting the next generation of filmmakers.MovieMaker Magazinehas already named Mammoth Lakes Film Festival as one of the "Top 50 Film Festival's Worth Your Entry Fee" for the last three years in a row. The Festival takes place in one of California's most beautiful mountain resort towns, Mammoth Lakes - a perfect backdrop for independent film and a premier tourist destination in its own right high in the eastern Sierra. Many industry professionals routinely visit and have vacation homes in Mammoth Lakes as it's an easy drive and quick flight from Los Angeles.

Mammoth Lakes Film Festival focuses on personal, innovative, and imaginative films by writers and directors with a unique style and point of view. Numerous films from MLFF’s showcase have gone on to great success, including Academy Award nominations and screenings at other festivals. In 2018 MLFF screened over 80 films with over 140 filmmakers in attendance, and $50,000 USD in cash and prizes awarded. Filmmakers invited to screen at MLFF will receive travel stipends, housing, and festival passes to enjoy the full event during their stay.

Industry professionals provide mentoring and support, and relationships and collaborations are actively promoted and nurtured. Last year the Festival attracted top-level press for filmmakers includingVariety,Vanity Fair,The Wrap,Associated Press,MovieMaker Magazine, and more. Jury members have included Andrew Lazar (Producer ofAmerican Sniper), Allison Amon (Producer ofThe Queen of Versailles), and John Feidler (Producer ofSerial MomandPecker). For 2019 A24 is committed to attend, helping MLFF attract distributors this season.
