In the Spotlight today is the 24th Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival, delivering one of the world's leading international competitions for short films, animation and VR/360 degree filmmaking. Encounters proves to be a critical event on the festival circuit as it's an official gateway to the world's most prestigious awards; BAFTAs, European Film Awards and a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards.

During the six-day event audiences are introduced to new and emerging talent from across the globe through in excess of ninety events including screenings, masterclasses, panel discussions and workshops. Encounters also provides an opportunity for creatives to share their work, develop their practice and network with one another and members of the industry.

The festival discovers, supports and develops new talent in filmmaking, providing a platform for emerging and established filmmakers from around the world, and a unique meeting place for the industry. Cash awards will be presented across multiple categories ranging from £1,000 GBP to €2,500 Euro including the DepicT! Awards (€1,500 Euro) for a winning film that is under 90 seconds. Dionne Edwards shares his feelings on winning the Chris Collins Best of British Award for Live Action in 2017, “It feels amazing! Encounters was one of the first festivals I came across when I was getting into filmmaking as a kid, it was always a festival I’ve wanted to get into. The fact that I’ve been given an award here feels extra special!”

MISSION & OBJECTIVE
Encounters is the home for new and emerging talent. Providing opportunities for filmmakers, animators and moving image creatives through exhibiting brave, new and innovative work.

MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Encounters Audience Award Winner, Toma Waszrow shares, "I thought I made a very, very local Balkan style film that most probably nobody will understand besides the East Europeans. I was terribly wrong - the film was selected and awarded at many festivals around the world. But I'm absolutely sure that what happened at Encounters, won't happen anywhere else. You guys have the best audience ever! I'll never forget how people talked to me even on the streets of Bristol; everywhere someone was shaking my hand. It was a turning point in my career."

Short films, animation and VR/360 degree projects under 30 minutes in length are now being considered - qualify your work today!
